Hallo! Ich heiße May, bin 18 und studiere im ersten Jahr. Ich habe zur Fotografie gefunden – ich habe schon immer davon geträumt, Momente einzufangen, die sonst niemandem auffallen, Geschichten ohne Worte zu erzählen und im Hintergrund zu bleiben, auch wenn ich manchmal am liebsten selbst ins Bild treten würde.
Das Studium an der Uni ist ganz anders als die Schule. Es gibt keine strenge Kontrolle, dafür aber eine enorme Freiheit, die manchmal auch beängstigend wirken kann. Man entscheidet selbst, ob man um sechs Uhr morgens aufsteht, um die „goldene Stunde“ zu nutzen, nachts ein Projekt abschließt oder einfach mit der Kamera durch die Stadt streift. Manchmal fühle ich mich schon richtig erwachsen. Ein anderes Mal komme ich mir vor wie ein kleines Mädchen, das mit den Worten „Geh los, fotografier, probier dich aus, hab keine Angst“ in die große Welt hinausgeschickt wurde.
Ich liebe die Morgenstunden auf dem Campus – wenn das Licht noch weich ist, die Schatten lang sind und verschlafene Studierende mit einem Kaffee in der Hand über die Wege schlendern. In meiner Tasche habe ich immer meine Kamera, ein Notizbuch, einen geladenen Akku und einen USB-Stick voller tausender unbearbeiteter Aufnahmen. Ich glaube, ich gehöre zu den Romantikern, die davon überzeugt sind, dass eine einzige, perfekte Aufnahme mehr sagen kann als tausend Worte.
Manchmal bin ich müde – von Abgabefristen, von der Suche nach der perfekten Bildkomposition, davon, dass meine Augen nach einer weiteren Nacht voller Bildbearbeitung nicht mehr richtig fokussieren wollen. Doch dann bleibt jemand vor meinen Arbeiten bei der Studentenausstellung stehen oder ein Dozent sagt leise: „Du verstehst es, Licht dort zu sehen, wo andere nur Schatten wahrnehmen“ – und in mir leuchtet alles wieder auf.
Ich bin 18, ich studiere, ich weiß eigentlich noch gar nichts – aber ich will unbedingt lernen. Ich lerne zu beobachten, zu fühlen, Fehler zu machen, mich in Menschen und Momente zu verlieben und dabei meinen eigenen Blick auf die Welt nicht zu verlieren.
Denn das ist erst der Anfang. Und er gehört mir.
